The forecast for the next 2 days shows more South Westerlies, followed by 2-3 days of storm. After that the wind is still expected from the West. We decide that it’s time to stop fighting these winds and make use of them, so turn back towards Dartmouth. We just fetch out of Plymouth Sound, and around Great Mew Stone. ‘Carlotta’ and ‘Susan J’ start off in the same direction, then tack West, heading for Fowey. We bear away onto a beam reach and ride the tide to Start Point. From there it’s a gybe and gently downwind to Dartmouth. A very different experience to the trip the other way.

We moor up back on ‘DC’ pontoon, almost getting tripped up by an eddy on the inner side. The harbour master helpfully advises us to look at which way the dinghies at the double steps are lying.

The forecast is still grim for a few days, so on Friday we move upstream to the ‘DA’ pontoon, tidy up and catch the train home. We’ll be back next week.
