SWOGA have laid on a race for us. Rather than a conventional start, they’ve assigned a starting window of 13:00-13:45. Within that we choose our own time and the race officer will time us round. This makes it all easier for those that don’t race much. The middle of the day start also leaves plenty of time for a cooked breakfast in an unlikely shed in the middle of the boatyard.

There’s a steady F5 forecast, with showers, so we put in a reef before casting off. The course is essentially twice around Plymouth Sound. We start around 13:15, but on our first tack the jib sheet comes undone. There’s just time on the starting window for us to go back to the start line and start again, while Louise and Marion sort out the problem. We check this with the race officer and get approval, restarting at 13:40. The boat’s going well and the showers skip around Plymouth Sound, so we have a great sail. We have no idea how we’ve done as everybody started at different times and we don’t really know who else in on our class.

Steve Lorraine on ‘Aeolus’ has been out taking photos and provides a collection for ‘Ivy Green’. Then it’s back to The Mount Batten Centre for lasagne, prize giving and music. We’ve won class 1!
