The first race of Falmouth Classics. It’s another sunny morning, with light winds. Race starts are delayed by the arrival of RFA Lyme Bay. Then delayed further trying to get a windward start as the Northerly wind and Southerly sea breeze battle for dominance. Eventually the wind settles back into the North.
We get a good start by the committee boat, but are lacking speed. ‘Lyra’ flying her topsail for the first time leads the fleet past us, along with ‘Alva’. By the time we’ve completed our 2 laps we’re fighting at the back of the fleet. The bottom must be the main suspect, but there’s no option to do anything today.
Then it’s off to the art gallery for the regatta reception, followed by supper for 5 at ‘The Lookout’, which comfortably meets our high expectations from last year.
