After yesterday, there’s been a consultation of the gaff sailing book, which suggests sheeting the staysail in as hard as possible, so we’ll try that today.
We’re away on time today, with a better course, that keeps us in the Solent. We get another good start, but still can’t keep us in the light winds. We enjoy a sail mixed in with the other racing fleets. Maybe the harder sheeting on the staysail is working, so we’ll try that again.
We decide to head straight for Cowes after the finish, with an gentle downwind sail taking us easily to Cowes Yacht Haven. We moor opposite our competition ‘Dorothy’. We register for our next event ‘Cowes Classics Week’ and enjoy a drink on the Royal London Yacht Club bar before A heads for home. L & R then join other gaffers at ‘Tonino’s’ for supper.
