We wake to find the boat rolling across the Easterly swell. The wind has come up, as forecast. Our initial plan to leave in the afternoon is revised as we realise how close we’re swinging to the neighbouring fin keel yacht. It’s lying to the wind, we’re held across both wind and tide. ‘Mat Ali’ make a similar decision and we follow them out mid morning.
We put a single reef in and motor out into the wind under main alone. The swell build rapidly and we both end up motor sailing back to Falmouth, due to lack of volunteers for the foredeck!
We make good time and unroll the jib as we bear away into the calm waters of Carrick Roads. We pass St. Just and head up the Fal, rafting on the pontoon above the King Harry Ferry for lunch. It seems very busy there, so we move back down to Channal Creek, which reveals itself to be idyllic.
