We pick up a mooring outside Cowes, as we wait for the wind to fill in. Then we’re off West on the ebb tide again. We get a clean start today and fetch straight across to Beaulieu. There it’s a gybe and hug Lepe Spit to get out of the tide. The bigger boats are coming back at the same time and we are treated to two varnished 8 metres racing past us. ‘Rosenn’ and ‘Dorothy’ both cu across the spit. ‘Rosenn’ doesn’t make it, but is safely towed off. The fleet compresses behind us, as we fight the tide. Eventually we’re clear, but ‘Winifred’ has passed us. Then it’s a reach to the East and a beat back to the finish line.
Once ashore, we’re joined by Mary, who is with us for the rest of the week, then Miles and Emily for tomorrow. We make a brief visit to the reception at the Cowes Classic Boat museum, then L cooks aboard for us and Satellite’s crew.
