Lighter winds again, as forecast. We get another good start and beat our way South along the West side of the course, trying to stay out of the tide. There’s a huge bend in the wind near Pendennis and we fetch all the way past the headland. As others struggle at the windward mark, we realise that we’ve dramatically over stood. Then it’s a slow downwind leg back to St. Just. The race committee announce that all courses are being shortened, but in such a way that there’s no significant change to our class. We spend another hour beating 1.5nm back to the windward mark, well past the time limit. We eventually give up as the finishing line boat announces that it’s leaving station. This is painfully similar to last year’s event.
By the time we’re in there’s just time to get ready and head off to the barbecue at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club, which serves up a feast. We’re back on board for a spectacular sunset.
