The weather has improved and everyone’s leaving. There’s plenty of room in Tobermory harbour to set up underway. We cross the Sound of Mull on a board reach, skirting South of Little Stirk, then around Auliston Point and into Loch Sunart.
Then it’s downwind all the way, with wind and seas easing. We’re goose-winged through the narrow passage North of Risga, which is straightforward in good conditions.
Salen Bay is on the Ardnamurchan side of the lock, with a small set of pontoons for up to 10 boats, as well as visitor moorings. We’ve booked a pontoon berth.
A short walk around the headland doesn’t have quite the views we expected, then supper at Salen Hotel, which is well populated by other sailing visitors.
The midges are out, but not excessive.
