We’re off for an overnight trip to Yarmouth. We stop at Port Hamble to refuel, taking on 137l of diesel, which suggests our fuel consumption rate is a little higher than usual. The boatyard also took Ivy Green out yesterday to investigate slight smokiness. Their conclusion is that nothing needs to be done at the moment.

Then we’re out into Southampton water. We hoist full main and staysail, but decide to leave the jib until after lunch. By then we’re beating down the ebb tide. It’s a little windier than expected, so we leave the jib furled for comfort. We make rapid progress and are in Yarmouth, on the pink pontoon by 16:00. Splicing practice continues on the next fender, but the starting point proves elusive. Supper at the Kings Head is followed by drinks at the Royal Solent, where we are welcomed as ever.
